SUNG was a vocal major before switching to trombone at age 17. He won first prize in the Taipei Symphony Orchestra (TSO) Concerto Competition and made his debut performing the Grøndahl Trombone Concerto with the TSO when he was 19 years old.
He studied with James OLIN (Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.), Scott HARTMAN (Yale University), Joseph ALESSI (NYPO), Harold Van Mckinney (ASU), Roger VOISIN (Trumpet Virtuoso), Robert LOO, Empire Brass and Atlantic Brass. He also performed with a number of popular vocalists and bands, including Wu-Bai, Karen MOK and Jay CHOU
SUNG has performed with the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Symphony, Taipei Philharmonic, YEH Su-Han Brass, and the Taipei Wind Ensemble. In 2003, the NSO trombone section participated in the ALESSI Seminar IV. In 2008, SUNG participated in the Joseph ALESSI Seminar at Fossano, Italy as a participant. He was a soloist with the NSO performing the TOMASI Trombone Concerto.
In 2016, Sung published a trombone method, “Qinbone handbook”, and also released a solo album “It is nice, here”. An alumnus of the Peabody Conservatory of Music and Boston University, SUNG is currently on the faculty of Soochow University and is Principal Trombonist of Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra. He is also a music director of Qinbone Seminar and East Coast Trombone Quartet.
