2017 ABRSM Winds Music Winner is going to Oboe and is won by Alyssa Yam. We are proudly to host the recital in Melaka with iNOTE Music Academy and Kojereeds. Thanks to ABRSM for giving our young musician to perform in Melaka, our first ever oboe recital in local.

Alyssa Yam Khai Zhee | Oboe

Winner of the Malaysian ABRSM Wind Music Prize 2017

Hailing from Penang, Alyssa started taking piano lessons at the age of 5. She started playing the oboe at the age of 13 under the instruction of Maestro Woon Wen Kin while studying at SMJK Chung Ling High School Butterworth. Since then, she has been performed with the Penang Symphony Orchestra, the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra and the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Alyssa has collaborated with musicians from the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre, the Singapore Lyric Opera, the Philharmonic Winds Singapore, the Singapore International Festival of Music Orchestra 2016, among others.
Alyssa is currently a scholar at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST), National University of Singapore, studying under Rachel Walker and Carolyn Hollier, both members of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Alyssa has also participated in masterclasses conducted by Alexandre Gattet (Orchestra de Paris),  Kalev Kuljus (NDR Sinfonieorchester), Thomas Indermuhle, and Spyros Kontos. She previously studied with Mr. Lee Chun Howe and Mr Simon Emes in Malaysia.

Apart from being a passionate music maker, Alyssa also enjoys travelling and learning about different cultures. As part of YST’s outreach endeavours, she has travelled to Bali and Myanmar to perform and learn about the musical cultures of ethnic communities in the region.
